How many of the Texas heifers remain fit

StatusReports differ

The Christian case

Prophecy teachers who expect a rebuilt Temple follow the fitness of the Texas heifers closely, since the Law asks for an animal "without spot, wherein is no blemish" (), and the rite cannot go ahead without one. On one recent report, two of the heifers are still fully red and have reached the age of four.

What the research found

Reports differ. Israel National News reported on 20 July 2026 that the project "originally began with four red heifers brought to Israel from the US". Two were disqualified "after black and white hairs appeared on their bodies", and the "remaining two fully red ('unblemished') cows have already reached the age of four". A transcript from a Christian prophecy programme reports a Temple Institute announcement in August 2025 that all of them had been disqualified. The Jerusalem Post had said in 2022 that five arrived.

Explore the counterarguments

The sources disagree even on how many heifers came from Texas (four or five), and on whether any remain fit, so no firm conclusion can be drawn. Whatever the answer, the heifers were brought to Israel to fulfil the texts, and their fitness is a matter of rabbinic ruling, not an independent sign.
